Yoga is a life of self-discipline based on the tenets of ‘simple living and high thinking’.
This program is rooted in commitment of both the teacher and the student, to cultivate daily yogic practices and to allow for the establishment of personal habits and rituals for expanding Self-awareness, in an organic and truthful way, and for spiritual investigation of life’s purposes.
The yogic wisdom to be cultivated, was and is made available through the grace of the late Swami Gurudev Sivananda (1887 – 1963) and his late disciple Swami Vishnudevananda (1927 -1993). Their successful mission was to spread yoga in the West, establishing centers to train the new “true world leaders”.
Sri Gurudev Sivananda authored close to 300 books on yogic philosophy and practices, as well as numerous medical journals and books in the quality of medical doctor. His teachings crystallized the basic tenets of all religions, combining all yoga paths into one – the Yoga of Synthesis. This he summed up with “Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize!”.
Swami Vishnudevananda, was sent to the West with the words “people are waiting”. With the grace of his guru, young Vishnu established the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres with the mission to preserve and teach the ancient yogic knowledge for health, peace, unity in diversity and Self-realization.
The [SHY101] Sivananda Hatha Yoga 1 program, is based on the training designed by Swami Vishnu; while drawing on the ancient yogic science and philosophy, it was designed to be easily embraced by the modern contemporary householder and Yoga aspirant, of any body-type and age, and of any cultural, religious and socio-economic background. The spiritual investigation of life’s purposes requires a keen intellect and strong will, and for this, the physical and mental faculties must be maintained and kept strong. This is the system of yoga that will be introduced and taught over 5 weeks of commitment, a simple and natural program involving 5 main principles:
1] Proper exercise – Asana (posture)
2] Proper breathing – Pranayama
3] Proper relaxation – Yoga Nidra
4] Proper Diet
5] Positive Thinking and Meditation – Vedanta and Dhyana
